Changxu CXC-701-1E Orchard Branch Chipper
The Changxu CXC-701-1E is a wheeled petrol chipper for turning orchard prunings into chips. Its text tables list branches from 3 to 100 mm, a 190F engine, two moving knives and one fixed knife, a 2600 rpm cutterhead and 800–1000 kg/hour throughput. A linked Changxu poster for the same model gives 120 mm capacity and a 460 cc electric-start engine instead. Ask Changxu to quote one dated version, then trial it with your own branches before you order.

Build my procurement briefDescribe your prunings first
Branch diameter is one part of a chipper choice. Orchard prunings mix straight stems, forks, thin leafy twigs and odd lengths. Changxu does not say what material gave the listed throughput or how awkward branches feed. When you ask for a demonstration, give the species, moisture, diameter spread and how the material is prepared.
The 550 × 450 mm hopper is the feed opening; branch capacity is set by the 3–100 mm range. The 87 cm intake height helps plan loading. Ask for the model manual and feeding rules for the build you are buying. For the grass between the rows, Changxu also builds the 4GY-550QA tracked remote mower.
Text table or poster: pick one build
Two different sets of figures carry the same model name, with no dated note saying whether they are options or revisions. Ask Changxu to name the version on the quotation and replace any conflicting figures.
| Item | Text table / poster |
|---|---|
| Capacity | Text: 3–100 mm. Poster: 120 mm. Get the figure for your build in writing. |
| Engine | Text: 190F petrol. Poster: 460 cc, 15 HP at 3600 rpm, electric start. Ask whether these are the same engine. |
| Dimensions | Text gives assembled and wooden-crate sizes. Poster gives a third size in a wrongly labelled field. |
| Weight | Text: 160–170 kg packed, by power option. Poster: 170 kg gross, 155 kg net. |
Published specifications
Read each value with its stated conditions, and ask the manufacturer for any limit not listed here.
| Specification | Published value | Meaning / limit |
|---|---|---|
| Branch diameter (text table) | 3–100 mm [1] [2] | Changxu's stated range. Hardwood, wet wood and forked branches may behave differently; test with your own material. |
| Knives | 2 moving knives + 1 fixed knife [1] [2] | Ask for the knife gap, fastening and adjustment procedure. |
| Moving-knife size | 200 × 56 × 6 mm [1] [2] | Bolt pattern, tolerances and part number are not listed. |
| Knife material | Imported HSS/high-speed steel and tungsten steel [1] [2] | Ask for the exact grade and heat treatment. |
| Engine (text table) | Petrol 190F [1] [2] | Ask for displacement, start system and rated output on the build sheet. |
| Cutterhead speed | 2600 rpm [1] [2] | Speed of the cutting assembly. The poster's 3600 rpm figure is an engine rating. |
| Feed opening / intake height | 550 mm wide × 450 mm high; intake 87 cm above ground [1] [2] | The hopper size; the branch limit is the diameter range above. |
| Assembled / wooden crate size | 145 × 76 × 133 cm / 122 × 58 × 96 cm [1] [2] | Two different states. Ask for the current drawing and packing list. |
| Tyres | 13 × 500-6 [1] [2] | As printed. Ask for load rating, hub and replacement tyre specification. |
| Packed weight (text table) | 160–170 kg, depending on power configuration [1] [2] | Packed weight varies with the engine fitted. Ask for the net machine weight. |
| Throughput (text table) | 800–1000 kg/hour [1] [2] | No wood mix, moisture, feeding method or test length is given. |
| Poster build | 120 mm capacity; 460 cc, 15 HP at 3600 rpm; electric start [3] | Differs from the text table. Ask Changxu which build it is quoting. |
| Poster weight / size | 170 kg gross / 155 kg net; 115 × 55 × 75 cm [3] | The size sits in a wrongly labelled field, so it is unclear whether it is assembled or packed. |
Ordering spare knives
The 200 × 56 × 6 mm moving-knife size is a good start. A spare also has to match the mounting holes, seating faces, edge angle and steel grade. The wording HSS/tungsten steel does not name a grade, and it is unclear whether these are two blade options.
Ask for drawings of the moving and fixed knives, the matching bolts, and Changxu's adjustment and maintenance instructions. Also ask which engine and drive parts belong to your configuration. Two chippers with the same colour and label may still take different parts.
Reading the 800–1000 kg/hour figure
The text gives throughput by weight but no branch species, moisture, feed mix, test interval or stoppages. So it tells you little about how much orchard you can clear in a day, chip size, or output on a different pruning mix. The 2600 rpm cutterhead speed is a design figure.
For a fair trial, agree the weighed input, the machine setup, the running time and what counts as a stoppage or leftover material. Record how the branches feed and how chips leave the machine, as well as the weight processed. Running the same trial on the Speedy SPY-10 Branch Chipper gives you a direct comparison on your own prunings.
Working space and chip discharge
Changxu describes an upper discharge hopper with a single outlet. Before setting the chipper up in an orchard, ask for the outlet direction and adjustment, discharge clearances and any limits on the collecting container. Ask too for the working space and keep-out zone around the machine. If mains power is close to where you work, an electric alternative to weigh is the Superpower CPY0130 Electric Chipper Shredder. Our garden and forestry pages list more machines for orchard upkeep.
The promotional photo carries a watermark and sales claims. Any tax-subsidy or high-tech wording on the poster is advertising; ask Changxu for current certificates for this model.
Buyer questions
Will a 450 mm branch fit the 550 × 450 mm opening?
The opening is the hopper size. Changxu rates the chipper for branches of 3–100 mm diameter. [1] [2]
Which engine does it have: 190F or 460 cc?
The text table says 190F and the poster says 460 cc. Ask Changxu to state the engine on the quotation and check the nameplate on delivery. [1] [2] [3]
