Speedy SPY-10 Branch Chipper
The Speedy SPY-10 is a manual-start branch chipper for orchard and farm pruning. Its table lists a Jiangdong 270 cc/11 hp engine, two moving blades and one fixed blade, a maximum cutting size of 5.25×3.75 inches and a gross mass of 77 kg. Two entries need Speedy's answer before you order. The product photograph shows a 457 CC engine label, and the packing size is printed as 33.5×22.7×23.2 mm. Send Speedy a description of your pruning material and the chip output you want, and ask for the engine and packing data for your build in writing.

Build my procurement brief270 cc in the table, 457 CC on the photo
The photograph sits on Speedy's own SPY-10 product page. Its engine cover reads 457 CC, while the product text says 270 cc and the table prints 270 cc/11 hp. Speedy gives no explanation, so ask before ordering.
| Source | What to settle on the quote |
|---|---|
| Table | Jiangdong 270 cc/11 hp, with no engine model or rating standard. Ask for both, and for shaft output. |
| Photograph | Shows a 457 CC label on the engine cover. Ask Speedy whether the photo shows a different build or a catalogue error. |
| Your offer | Request the current SPY-10 engine and model identification with a specification sheet and a photo of the machine you will receive. |
| Order record | Keep Speedy's written answer with your demo notes and order, so later parts and repairs match the right engine. |
Published specifications
Read each value with its stated conditions, and ask the manufacturer for any limit not listed here.
| Specification | Published value | Meaning / limit |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | SPY-10 table: Jiangdong 270 cc/11 hp; product photo label: 457 CC [1] [2] | The table and photo differ. Ask Speedy which engine your build carries, with model number. |
| Starting | Manual start [1] | Request the starting and operating instructions for the exact engine fitted. |
| Blade arrangement | 2 moving blades + 1 fixed blade [1] | Ask for blade material, shaft speed, clearance setting and replacement procedure. |
| Maximum cutting size | 5.25×3.75 inches [1] | Two dimensions as printed. Ask whether this is the feed opening and what branch diameter Speedy approves. |
| Packed mass | 77 kg gross [1] | Ask for machine net mass and what the pack contains. |
| Packing dimensions (as printed) | 33.5×22.7×23.2 mm [1] | Too small for this machine in millimetres. Request measured packed size with units. |
| Container loading | 184 units/40HP [1] | Ask for the container type and the loading plan for your quantity. |
Branch size, blades and chip output
The 5.25×3.75-inch figure is labelled maximum cutting size. Speedy does not say whether it is the feed opening or a branch size tested on real wood, so read the two numbers together and ask before you plan around 5.25 inches.
| Topic | What it means for your pruning |
|---|---|
| Your material | Describe the species, condition, branch shape and how many forks and leaves come with it, and ask Speedy what the SPY-10 accepts. |
| Opening or branch | Request the intake dimensions and the largest round branch Speedy approves for this model. |
| Blades | Two moving blades and one fixed blade. Ask for spare blade references, steel grade, rotor speed, clearance and replacement interval. |
| Chip size | Speedy's general chipper copy says discharge is below 2 cm. Ask for SPY-10 chip size on material like yours. |
Trial on your own pruning pile
Run the trial on your actual pruning material and judge it against the output you plan to collect. Agree with Speedy what material and feeding method are allowed under the current manual, and have a trained operator run the machine. Record the build, the material, how much was processed and any stops. Horsepower gives no kilograms per hour.
Keep time spent hauling and preparing the pile apart from time at the chipper. Speedy publishes no throughput, crew size or feeding-duty figure. If the Changxu CXC-701-1E orchard branch chipper is also on your list, feed it the same pile so the results line up. Feed a mixed pile with forks and leaves, since straight branches alone flatter the result.
If the chips are going to compost, bedding or disposal, set the size you need first and check it against what the machine produced. Stumps left after a clear-out are a separate job, handled by Speedy's SPY-SG15 stump grinder, and the SPY-550 tracked remote mower looks after the grass between rows.
Guards, training and service instructions
OSHA's tree-work activity sheet lists chipper guarding, following the maker's instructions, stopping the machine before reaching in and isolating energy before servicing as key controls. It also covers operator training and eye, face, hand and hearing protection. The sheet was written for hurricane response and recovery work and gives general guidance for all chippers.
For the SPY-10, ask Speedy for the operating and service manual and for details of the feed and discharge guards, access covers and the stopping and isolation arrangements on your build. Clear blockages only by the procedure in that manual. Chippers from other makers in the garden and forestry category can be put through the same guarding questions.
Packing size, weight and container loading
The packing row reads 33.5×22.7×23.2 mm, far too small for the machine in the photo. Ask Speedy for real figures before you work out freight.
Packed size
Request measured packed dimensions with units and the current packing list or drawing.
Gross and net
77 kg is the gross figure. Ask for machine net mass, packing material and what is in the box.
Loading plan
Ask Speedy to explain the 184 units/40HP entry with the container type, pack layout and loading quantity for your order.
Unloading on site
Request unloading and moving instructions, assembled dimensions, lifting points and whether the wheeled frame may be towed.
Buyer questions
