Speedy SPY-550 Tracked Remote Mower
The Speedy SPY-550 is a tracked remote-controlled mower with a 55 cm cutting width, a Loncin 224 cc/7.5 hp engine and twin-motor drive. It weighs 136 kg net and measures 900×930×560 mm. It is built for mowing orchard rows, banks and farm vegetation without an operator on board. Speedy's general copy for its remote machines mentions 2.4G radio control, a 300 m radius, six hours of endurance and infrared obstacle avoidance. Ask Speedy to confirm which of these apply to the SPY-550 you buy, together with its battery, slope limit and controller.

Build my procurement briefFitting the 55 cm cut to your rows
The cut width and the machine's size answer different questions. A narrow orchard row may fit the cut strip yet be too tight for the tracked body to pass and turn, so check both.
| Route question | What the SPY-550 data tells you |
|---|---|
| Strip mown per pass | 55 cm. Real coverage depends on cut setting, overlap, vegetation and stops; Speedy gives no hectares-per-hour figure. |
| Gates and rows | The machine measures 900×930×560 mm, well beyond the 55 cm cut. Ask which axis is which and how much room it needs to turn. |
| Under trees | Ask whether the 560 mm figure is the height and how low the machine can work under branches. |
| Grass and brush | Ask for the maximum grass height, stem thickness and cut-height range for this model, and describe what you need to mow. |
Published specifications
Read each value with its stated conditions, and ask the manufacturer for any limit not listed here.
| Specification | Published value | Meaning / limit |
|---|---|---|
| Cutting width | 55 cm [1] | Width of the cut strip. Ask for the cutting-height range and the vegetation it is designed for. |
| Engine | Loncin 224 cc/7.5 hp [1] | Ask for the engine model and rating standard, and how the engine relates to the electric drive. |
| Travel drive | Twin-motor drive [1] | Request motor voltage and power, the controller, the battery and charging set-up and travel speed. |
| Product dimensions | 900×930×560 mm [1] | Ask which figure is length, width and height, and the clearance needed to turn. |
| Net mass | 136 kg [1] | Ask for gross packed mass, ground pressure and lifting points. |
| Packing and container | 950×980×710; 72 units/40HP [1] | The packing row has no unit. Request packed size with units and a loading plan. |
| Remote features (company copy) | 2.4G, 300 m, 6 hours, infrared obstacle avoidance [2] | Written for Speedy's remote range in general. Ask for SPY-550 figures and test conditions. |
Engine, travel motors and battery
The table lists a petrol engine and twin-motor drive. To plan a working day you need the full power layout: what drives the blade, what drives the tracks and how the drive is charged.
| Listed item | What to ask Speedy |
|---|---|
| Engine | Loncin 224 cc/7.5 hp. Request the engine model and rating basis for the machine you are offered. |
| Two travel motors | Ask for voltage, power, the drive controller and speed settings, and how the tracks grip and turn on a loaded bank. |
| Battery and charging | Request battery voltage, capacity and chemistry, how it is charged, and whether the engine charges it while working. |
| Shift length | A shift mixes cutting, turning and stops. Ask what duty and settings stand behind the six-hour figure and what to expect on the SPY-550. |
Radio range, stopping and obstacle detection
Speedy's introduction mentions 2.4G control, a 300 m radius and infrared obstacle avoidance across its remote range. Trees, buildings and ground contours cut radio range, so plan around what you see in a demo on your own route.
Controller
Ask which transmitter and receiver ship with the offered build, their version and settings, and the current manual.
Your route
Describe the route and obstacles to Speedy and ask for a demo there, working well inside the advertised radius.
Stop and signal loss
Request documented stop and signal-loss behaviour: whether it brakes, whether it can restart by itself, and what state it goes to.
Obstacle sensor
Ask what the infrared system detects, its range and limits, and how the machine responds when it triggers.
Slopes, wet ground and moving between fields
Tracks suit rough ground, but Speedy publishes no maximum slope, side-slope limit, braking figure or wet-ground guidance for the SPY-550. Ground pressure also needs the track contact area, which the 136 kg net mass alone cannot give. Ask Speedy for the operating limits and manual before working banks. Put the same request to Changxu for its 4GY-550QA tracked remote mower if you are comparing the two. Mowers from other makers in our garden and forestry category give a yardstick for those limits.
For moving between fields, ask how to load and lift the machine and where to tie it down. The product size of 900×930×560 mm and the packing row of 950×980×710 are separate, and the packing row has no unit. Ask Speedy to explain the 72 units/40HP container entry with a packing plan before booking freight.
Route trial and spare parts
Ask Speedy for a demonstration on your vegetation and terrain at your cut setting, run by a trained operator to the current manual. Note the engine, controller, drive and battery versions used. Record the area finished, time spent turning and any stops. Pruning piles and old stumps in the same orchards are jobs for Speedy's SPY-10 branch chipper and SPY-SG15 stump grinder.
Keep those build details with the trial notes. Order matching blades, track parts, motors, controller and charging parts from the same build, and ask for part codes, wear intervals and support response times in writing.
If the engine, controller or battery changes after the trial, ask Speedy to name the new build and its current specification. Request endurance, reliability and slope data for that build as well.
Buyer questions
Does the SPY-550 really reach 300 m?
The 300 m radius comes from Speedy's general remote-equipment copy. Ask for the SPY-550 controller's range and the conditions it was measured in. [1] [2]
Will it mow for six hours?
Six hours is a company-wide figure. Ask for the SPY-550 battery rating and the duty behind the runtime, then plan your shift from a route trial. [1] [2]
Can it work steep banks?
Speedy gives no slope, stability or braking limit. Ask for those in writing before using it on banks. [1] [3]
Is 55 cm the width it needs to pass?
55 cm is the cut. The machine itself measures 900×930×560 mm; ask which axis is which and how much room it needs to turn. [1]
What are the motor and battery ratings?
The table lists the Loncin engine and twin motors but no motor voltage, power, battery capacity or charging method. Request them for the build you buy. [1]
