Sunyoung 6CLZ Green Tea Strip Shapers

The Sunyoung 6CLZ is an electrically heated trough machine for shaping fine green tea into tight, straight strips. Two rows are listed. The 6CLZ-60/8(11) has a 0.55 kW motor and 8 kW of heating for ≥8 kg/h. The 6CLZ-80/14(18) has a 1.1 kW motor and 21.6 kW of heating for ≥12 kg/h. Temperature and speed are both adjustable. Sunyoung also prints a four-machine vibratory line built on the 80 model. This page compares the two machines, explains what to pin down about the troughs and charge, and sets out the line package.

Build my procurement brief

Which trough build each model code means

Sunyoung prints 6CLZ-60/8(11) and 6CLZ-80/14(18) in both the web table and the brochure. The figures after the slash and in brackets are not explained, and the product photo shows a multi-trough assembly without identifying which version it is.

Ask Sunyoung for a written description of the build you are quoted: how many troughs, how they are arranged and the leaf-contact shape. Treat 8, 11, 14 and 18 as possible builds to confirm one by one, each with its own price.

60 against 80: heater, motor and rate

Going from the 60 to the 80 row, heating power rises from 8 to 21.6 kW and listed output from 8 to 12 kg/h. The heater grows much faster than the rate. Ask for measured energy per kilogram on your leaf before comparing running costs.

Catalogue figuresWhat to settle with Sunyoung
60 row: 0.55 kW motor; 8 kW heatingElectrical supply, heater control and the loading conditions behind the rate for this build.
80 row: 1.1 kW motor; 21.6 kW heatingSite connected load from the full delivered electrical schedule, heater included.
Size: 1920 × 890 × 940 against 2660 × 1210 × 1010 mmCharge mass, trough length, operator reach and working clearance for the chosen build.
Rate: ≥8 against ≥12 kg/hThe leaf type and quality grade behind each figure, so you can match it to your daily output.

Judging the shaped strip on your own leaf

Sunyoung says the machine gives tight, straight strips with intact buds and leaves, visible tips and a green lustre. These describe the look of the finished tea. The catalogue gives no tolerance and no temperature or speed recipe to reach it.

Send representative leaf at the stage where it will enter the shaper and agree beforehand how the result will be graded. Compare leaf in and leaf out for strip form and breakage using your own sampling method. Note the leaf condition and Sunyoung's recommended settings next to each sample, so a good result can be repeated in your factory. Shaping is one step in the green-tea sequence that our stage guide to tea processing machinery follows from withering to drying.

Charge size, handling and lot changes

The hourly figure leaves out charge per cycle and the time spent heating, loading, unloading and cleaning between lots. Work these out with Sunyoung before planning shifts. If you would rather feed strips without lot changes, the maker also lists the 6CLXL240 continuous tea-strip shaping machine.

  1. Describe the leaf coming in

Say which process runs before shaping, how much lots vary and the leaf condition. Ask what feed condition Sunyoung recommends.

  2. Ask for the charge and how the rate was set

Find out how much leaf the quoted trough build takes per cycle and the test behind the hourly rate.

  3. Watch a full cycle

Time loading, shaping, discharge, and the lot change and cleaning in the demonstration.

  4. Plan the next step

Decide how shaped leaf moves to the following process. Conveyors and transfer are quoted separately if you need them.

Buyer questions

Do 8(11) and 14(18) give the number of troughs?

Sunyoung does not explain the codes. Ask for the trough count and arrangement of your quoted build in writing. [2] [3] [4]

Is 21.6 kW the motor?

No. On the 80 row the motor is 1.1 kW and 21.6 kW is the heater. Ask for the full electrical schedule for site planning. [2] [3]

How much leaf goes in per batch?

The catalogue gives only an hourly rate of ≥12 kg/h for the 80 row. Ask for the charge per cycle and the test conditions behind the rate. [2] [3]

Is there a temperature or speed recipe?

Sunyoung says both are adjustable and gives no numbers. Settle the settings for your tea during the trial. [1] [3]

Controls, trough surfaces and service

The catalogue says temperature and speed can be adjusted. Ranges, sensing points and accuracy are for Sunyoung to supply for the delivered machine and to show in the leaf trial.

Point to settleWhat to request
Temperature controlOperating range, where the sensor sits and how to check it. Heater kW alone does not set the trough temperature.
Motion and speedAdjustment limits and the procedure for the supplied mechanism. Stroke, frequency and speed are not printed.
Leaf-contact troughsMaterial, surface finish, shape and cleaning instructions for the chosen build. Ask for the steel grade and any food-contact certificate.
Controls and electricsSupply, connected load, controls and protection, and commissioning instructions. Ask whether settings can be stored.
Wear and accessService points, trough and drive spare parts, handling and access for the build ordered.

The four-machine vibratory strip-forming line

A second brochure spread shows a 6CLZ-80/14(18) vibratory strip-forming module. It uses 14-trough or 18-trough machines with a 6CS33Z-6.0 vibratory conveyor, a feeding machine and controls. A stainless-steel drum with an axial-flow blower sends warm air over the tea during forming to carry moisture away.

The line figures are for four machines together. Read them as a line package and compare them with the single-machine table on their own terms. Ask for a layout of the line you order and a trial on your leaf. Shaped strips still need drying, and Sunyoung quotes its 6CHB continuous tea dryers for that step.

Line figure in the brochureHow to use it
Heating and base power21.6 kW × 4 heating and 1.1 kW × 4 base power for the four machines. Conveyor, blower, feeder and controls come on top, so get the full motor and heater list.
Output4 × 10 kg/h for the line, while the single 80 machine is listed at ≥12 kg/h. Ask Sunyoung which figure applies to your order and under what conditions.
Line size6000 × 2500 × 920 mm for the four machines. Confirm the full footprint with feeding, conveyor, air handling and service space.
Warm-air unitAsk what heat and air equipment is supplied, the air path, and the air temperature and humidity limits.
Conveyor and feederConfirm quantity, heights, stop behaviour and collection for the 6CS33Z-6.0 conveyor and feeding machine, and the real conveyor length.
