Tea processing
Sunyoung 6CHFJ-5B / 6CHFJ-10B Black-Tea Fermentation Machines
Sunyoung's 6CHFJ-5B and 6CHFJ-10B are electric cabinets for controlled black-tea fermentation, aimed at small and medium processors. They regulate temperature, humidity and fermentation time and change the air on a timer. The 5B offers 4.8 m² of effective leaf-spreading area and the 10B 9.6 m², both with 2 kW heating. Capacity is printed as 175 and 350, but the website table gives kg per batch while the brochure gives kg/h under the names 6CHF-5B and 6CHF-10B. Settle the model name and capacity unit with Sunyoung before ordering, then run a loaded control trial.

Build my procurement brief175 and 350: per batch or per hour?
On the website parameter image, 175 and 350 sit under a heading for hourly output while the unit reads kg per batch. Printed page 32 of the official brochure gives the same values as kg/h and names the models 6CHF-5B and 6CHF-10B, against 6CHFJ-5B and 6CHFJ-10B on the web.
Heater, area and size figures match between the two, which makes a clear question to put to Sunyoung. Ask for a dated specification that names the model and states the leaf state, the load, the programme and whether capacity is per batch or per hour. Plan your line rate only once that answer is on paper.
Leaf area inside, floor space outside
Spreading area tells you how much leaf surface the cabinet holds. External size tells you how much room it takes. Ask Sunyoung for shelf count and leaf-layer depth, which neither figure gives. Fermentation comes after rolling, and the stage-by-stage tea machinery guide places cabinets like these in a black-tea line.
| Model figure | How to use it |
|---|---|
| 5B: 4.8 m² effective spreading area | Leaf surface Sunyoung quotes. Request tray or shelf sizes and how evenly leaf may be loaded. |
| 10B: 9.6 m² effective spreading area | Double the 5B surface. Ask whether output also doubles on the programme you plan to run. |
| 5B: 1100 ×950 ×1820 mm | Outside dimensions for the floor plan, separate from the 4.8 m² of spreading surface. |
| 10B: 1600 ×950 ×1820 mm | Same width and height, 500 mm longer. Add door, service and utility clearances on the drawing. |

Testing control with a full leaf load
Sunyoung lists the controlled functions without uniformity or accuracy figures. A display that reaches its setpoint tells you about the air at the sensor, so test conditions across a real load of leaf.
Choose the trial leaf
Tea type, how it was withered and rolled, and a representative mass and condition.
Map the measurements
Sensor positions, calibration records, and which readings are air temperature and which are leaf temperature.
Log the programme
Tray or spreading layout, temperature and humidity steps, ventilation timing and total duration for the run.
Score the outcome
Agree how variation across shelves and over time will be measured, and how the fermented tea will be judged.
Published specifications
Read each value with its stated conditions, and ask the manufacturer for any limit not listed here.
| Specification | Published value | Meaning / limit |
|---|---|---|
| Model names in Sunyoung documents | Web:6CHFJ-5B /10B; brochure:6CHF-5B /10B [1] [2] [3] | The numbers match closely. Ask Sunyoung which name is current and whether both describe the same build. |
| Energy source | Electricity, both rows [2] | Ask for supply voltage, frequency and the total connected rating. |
| Heating power | 2 kW, both rows [2] | Heater only. Fans, humidifier and controls add to the total load. |
| Capacity, two units printed | Web:175 /350 kg/batch; brochure:175 /350 kg/h [2] [3] | The web table also heads the column hourly output. Get one unit and its test basis in writing. |
| Effective leaf-spreading area | 4.8 /9.6 m² [2] | Surface the leaf lies on inside the cabinet. Ask for tray count and the leaf depth allowed. |
| Size, 5B /10B | 1100 ×950 ×1820 /1600 ×950 ×1820 mm [2] | Length, width and height of the cabinet. Door swing, utilities and service room go on the installation drawing. |
| Controlled functions | Temperature, humidity, fermentation time and timed air exchange [1] | Ask for setpoint ranges, accuracy, sensor positions and whether readings are logged. |
| Tea result Sunyoung describes | Manufacturer promotes stable conditions and avoidance of over/under fermentation [1] | Check the result on your own cultivar, leaf preparation and loading pattern. |
Same 2 kW heater for two cabinet sizes
Both cabinets carry 2 kW of heating. Sunyoung gives no total electric demand, humidifier load, fan power, insulation data or loaded recovery test. These matter each time the door opens for reloading and whenever the room around the cabinet is colder or drier than usual.
Ask for the full electrical and utility specification for your supply. If running cost weighs in your choice, compare the two models on measured behaviour and energy over a full loaded cycle. Ask Sunyoung how recovery time and energy use change when moving from the 5B to the larger 10B.

Ventilation, door openings and power cuts
Timed air exchange is listed, but the page leaves out the damper layout, the control sequence and what happens on a fault. Put these questions to Sunyoung with the quote. Fermented leaf then goes to drying, and the 6CHB continuous tea dryers are listed with Sunyoung's other tea processing machines.
| Function | What to ask for or see demonstrated |
|---|---|
| Timed ventilation | Air path, fresh-air and exhaust layout, programme limits and site duct connections. |
| Door opened mid-run | How the controller reacts and what the manual tells the operator to do. |
| Power or sensor failure | Alarms, safe handling and the restart routine for the control build supplied. |
| Batch records | Which settings and readings can be stored or exported if you need traceability. |
| Cleaning and service | Access to leaf-contact areas, the approved cleaning method and replaceable sensor and humidifier parts. |
Buyer questions
Is 175/350 an hourly output?
The web table prints kg per batch under an hourly heading, and the brochure prints kg/h with a different model prefix. Ask Sunyoung for the current specification and the load and programme behind it. [2] [3]
Is 9.6 m² the floor space of the 10B?
It is the effective leaf-spreading area inside. The outside size is 1600 ×950 ×1820 mm. [2]
Does 2 kW cover fans and humidifier?
The column is headed heating power. Ask for the total electrical input. [2]
Judging the black tea at acceptance
Sunyoung pitches these cabinets at small and medium black-tea makers and says they help avoid over- and under-fermentation. Neither document sets a sensory, chemical or colour end point for your tea, so define one yourself. For a belt-fed alternative to batch cabinets, Sunyoung also builds the 6CFJ continuous black-tea fermentation module.
Agree the trial leaf, the programme and the scoring with whoever is responsible for tea quality on your side. File the chosen configuration and its manuals together with the result. Ask Sunyoung to quote price, warranty period, delivered weight, any current conformity certificate and maintenance intervals for the model you pick.
