SFR ZGS38 Combine Chain with Attachments
The SFR ZGS38 is a combine-harvester chain with attachments. Its drawing gives a 38.0 mm pitch, a 16.0 mm maximum roller, a 22.00 mm minimum inside width and a full set of pin and plate limits. SFR prints a 40.0 kN minimum ultimate tensile strength, a 55.3 kN average and 2.00 kg per metre. Use these figures with your sprocket and attachment drawings to request a replacement for a gathering, conveying or elevating run.

Build my procurement briefChecking ZGS38 against your sprocket and guides
The 38.0 mm pitch is one part of the fit. The roller diameter and the width between inner plates must suit your sprocket. The L and Lc widths and the plate depth decide whether the chain clears guides, guards and nearby parts. SFR prints some sizes as maximums and others as minimums, and both labels matter when you compare drawings.
Send SFR the code on your current chain, an installation drawing and the sprocket reference. Ask for the current ZGS38 drawing at the quoted revision and the connecting-link type. That lets SFR check tooth engagement, side clearance and installed length against your machine. Where a run needs plain chain, SFR's S62 agricultural roller chain has its own size row and drawing.
Published specifications
Read each value with its stated conditions, and ask the manufacturer for any limit not listed here.
| Specification | Published value | Meaning / limit |
|---|---|---|
| Chain reference / pitch P | ZGS38 / 38.0 mm [2] | Joint-to-joint spacing from the drawing. The attachment repeat and machine fit come from the attachment drawing. |
| Roller diameter d1 / inside width b1 | 16.0 mm maximum / 22.00 mm minimum [2] | One is a maximum and the other a minimum. Keep both labels when checking against the sprocket drawing. |
| Pin diameter d2 | 9.0 mm maximum [2] | Drawing limit for the pin in the assembled chain. |
| Pin length L / Lc | 39.0 mm maximum / 43.0 mm maximum [2] | Two widths across the chain. Lc covers the connecting-link arrangement. |
| Inner plate depth h2 / plate thickness T | 21.5 mm maximum / 3.0 mm maximum [2] | Used for guide and side-clearance checks. The installed attachment envelope comes from the attachment drawing. |
| Ultimate tensile strength Q | 40.0 kN minimum; 9091 lbf printed [2] | Static breaking strength as SFR labels it. Ask SFR for a working load and fatigue rating separately. |
| Average tensile strength Q0 | 55.3 kN [2] | Average static result. Use the 40.0 kN minimum when you compare chains. |
| Weight per metre q | 2.00 kg/m [2] | Base chain only. Ask for the mass of the attached chain and the packed set on the quotation. |
Attachments and chain position
The product name includes attachments, while the dimension row covers the base chain. The photographs show attached variants without an attachment code, spacing, hole pattern or loading direction. Ask SFR for a full build schedule of the attached chain, so you can judge whether it will carry, gather or lift your crop. Our guide to combine attachment chain and agricultural roller chain lists the CA and S family details that schedule should name.
SFR's agricultural booklet lists gathering, conveying and elevating chains separately, and splits side and middle conveyor runs. Use those names to describe where the chain runs on your combine. If your machine uses a different attached-chain family, the Dongsheng CA-type Steel Agricultural Chain is another option to quote against the same build schedule. Then give the attachment orientation and running direction, and ask for the repeat pattern and the clearance through guides and return runs.
Reading the 40.0 kN and 55.3 kN figures
The ZGS38 table prints a minimum ultimate tensile strength and an average tensile strength. Both are static test figures. State on the quotation which figure an engineering check relies on.
| Printed field | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Q: 40.0 kN minimum | SFR's minimum ultimate tensile strength. Service tension, duty factor and fatigue life need a separate rating from SFR. |
| Q0: 55.3 kN average | The average of tensile results. The lower 40.0 kN minimum is the figure to compare. |
| Operating rating to request | The allowable duty for your attached chain, with speed, loading pattern, starts and jams, wear limits and test method. |

Length, mass and assembled clearance
The 2.00 kg per metre figure covers the base chain. It leaves out attachments and machine sets, so get the shipping weight and replacement-kit weight on the quotation. List installed length or link count, connectors, attachment quantities and each chain run in the order.
At acceptance, check the base-chain and attachment drawings together. Record the L or Lc arrangement chosen, how far the attachments project, and the clearance at guides, return runs and sprockets. Take attachment sizes from SFR's drawing, and give the length and repeat of each run separately.
Buyer questions
Is 55.3 kN the allowed working load?
SFR labels 55.3 kN as average tensile strength. Ask SFR for a working load and fatigue rating for your chain. [2]
Will a 38.0 mm pitch chain fit my combine?
Pitch is a start. Roller and inside width, sprocket engagement, connecting link, installed length and attachments all have to match your assembly. [2] [3]
