SCANDI Grapple Crane 450 Log Trailer
The SCANDI Grapple Crane 450 is a log trailer with its own petrol-driven hydraulic crane, sold in two main versions. The 450-I has no automatic roller drive; the 450-II is 4×4 with automatic roller drive. SCANDI lists a 4.4 m arm, 200 kg lifting capacity at maximum reach, 2000 kg trailer loading, a 7 HP / 5 kW engine and a 20 MPa pump. The crane lifts far less than the trailer carries, so size it on the load chart for your logs. Ask SCANDI to confirm the exact version, the weight row printed as 451-II and the towing setup before you order.

Build my procurement briefCrane lift vs trailer load: 200 kg and 2000 kg
SCANDI lists 200 kg lifting at maximum reach and 2000 kg trailer loading. The trailer carries ten times what the crane lifts at full reach, so a full load is built up log by log. If you need a trailer without a crane, SCANDI's 4W-A01A log trailer is the plain option among its forestry trailers. The 4.4 m figure is arm length; the page does not give the radius for the 200 kg point, whether the grapple is included in it, the support setup or the allowed lifting zones.
| Loading step | What to get from SCANDI |
|---|---|
| Picking the log | Send your log lengths, diameters and weight range, and ask for the load chart with radius points, grapple weight, support setup and working zones. Lifts at shorter radius come from that chart. |
| Placing the load | Ask for the approved load position on the trailer, load spread limits, tie-down and loading procedure for your build. The total on the trailer must stay within the trailer rating. |
| Setting up to work | Ask for setup and inspection instructions with support and ground requirements. The side photo shows stabiliser legs; ask for their footing load, allowed slope and whether any lift may be made without them. |
Published specifications
Read each value with its stated conditions, and ask the manufacturer for any limit not listed here.
| Specification | Published value | Meaning / limit |
|---|---|---|

450-I, 450-II and the 451-II weight row
SCANDI introduces 450-I without automatic roller drive and 450-II 4×4 with automatic roller drive. The weight rows then list 450-I at 615 kg, 451-II at 665 kg and 450-II-RC at 690 kg. Ask SCANDI whether 451-II is a separate version or a misprint of 450-II, and for the operating and packed weight of the build you order. Ask also what RC stands for and what it adds.
Pick the drive version
Get the exact model and serial description, the roller hardware supplied, the controls and when the drive may be engaged. Ask for traction, slope and loaded speed figures.
Match each weight to a build
Ask for a parts and options list showing whether crane, trailer, engine, winch, drive, fluids and attachments are counted in each weight. Use the right one for towing and handling.
Remote control
If a remote version is offered, ask for the transmitter and receiver, functions, emergency stop, failure behaviour and conformity documents.
Pump, flow and crane speed
SCANDI calls the pump entry supply oil flow but gives it as 5 mL/R, a volume per revolution. The table also lists 3900 r/m as maximum rotary speed without naming the shaft. Litres per minute depend on the real pump speed, drive ratio and losses, which SCANDI has not published. The 20 MPa entry gives no circuit settings or speed when several functions run at once.
Ask for the pump model, its displacement, the drive ratio, working flow and pressure, and the hydraulic diagram for your version. Agree which movements can run together: crane, grapple, roller drive and optional winch. Ask for a timed work cycle at your log size and radius, since the 7 HP/5 kW engine and the tank size do not tell you cycle time.
Swing angle, temperature range and oil
The swing row reads ±180℃, an angle printed with a temperature symbol. The working temperature row says −40°C to 80°C without naming air, oil or a component. Ask SCANDI to correct both for the machine you buy. Before signing, our guide to log trailers, cranes and winches for farms helps you check which crane and trailer ratings belong in the offer.
| Catalogue entry | What to ask SCANDI for |
|---|---|
| Swing and stops | The rotation angle in degrees, directions, stops, hose routing and operating limits. Ask whether the crane can rotate continuously. |
| Temperature range | Which part and measuring point the range refers to, and the limits for ambient air, start-up, continuous work and hydraulic oil. Ask for warm-up, shutdown and storage instructions. |
| No. 50 oil and 9.2 L reservoir | A full oil specification, compatible alternatives and the filling and checking procedure for your climate, including the working fill level. |

Towing size, hitch and route
SCANDI prints the combined size as 4900(3850) × 1580 × 1950 mm, without explaining the two lengths. The photos show a towbar, tyres and an extended boom. For the 2000 kg trailer load, ask SCANDI for towing and load-spread limits for your build.
Measure the transport build
Ask for a drawing with folded and extended positions, the meaning of both lengths, clearances and how the crane is secured for transport. Ask whether 3850 is the load length.
Match the hitch
Name your towing vehicle and get coupling, drawbar, tongue load, axle and tyre ratings, brakes and towing limits. Ask for speed rating and road-use status for the 22×11-12 tyres.
Plan load, tie-down and route
Ask where logs and crane must sit, how loads are tied down and what route limits apply. Turning, rough ground and clearance need SCANDI's written limits and your own route check.
Winch, dumping box, bucket and scissor options
SCANDI lists a hydraulic winch, dumping box, bucket and scissor as options. Each one changes the job and the loaded setup. The front photo shows winch hardware, but the page calls the winch optional, so check what the base price includes. SCANDI also sells a separate hand-crank unit, the 4W-A07 log winch, for jobs where winching is the main task.
| Option | What its quotation should include |
|---|---|
| Winch | Mounting, rated pull and its conditions, rope and drum size, hydraulic connection and the jobs it may do. Winch pull is rated separately from crane lift. |
| Dumping box | Box volume, allowed contents, tipping geometry and the trailer and support limits when tipping. Ask for the tipping payload. |
| Bucket or scissor | Exact tool, weight, connection, hydraulic needs, allowed material and how it changes the load chart. Ask which cutting, digging or lifting jobs each tool is meant for. |
CE documents and current supply
SCANDI's page says CE certification, and both photos show a CE graphic. The image files date from 2016, and the product page shows no revision or availability date. Ask SCANDI to confirm the current build and specification before you order from this catalogue.
| What to collect | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Conformity and identity | The declaration of conformity, legal manufacturer, exact model and version, standards applied and manuals for your country. |
| Build and test record | Load chart, hydraulic and drive drawings, corrected units and model names, the option list ordered and an acceptance demonstration that follows the supplied instructions. |
| Packing and service | Current availability, crate and dismantling plan, gross weight, spare parts and written warranty. The 10/20FT and 20/40FT counts are packing figures; stock and freight come from a quotation. |
Buyer questions
Can the crane lift the trailer's 2000 kg load?
SCANDI rates the crane at 200 kg at maximum reach. The 2000 kg is what the trailer carries. Ask for the full load chart and setup conditions to see what it lifts closer in. [1]
Is 451-II the same model as 450-II?
The model list says 450-II and the 665 kg weight row says 451-II. Ask SCANDI to confirm which build the weight belongs to. [1]
What is the oil flow in litres per minute?
SCANDI gives 5 mL/R, a per-revolution figure. Ask for the pump drive speed, ratio and measured working flow. [1]
Can it rotate continuously and work at −40°C?
The swing row is printed with a temperature symbol and the temperature row names no part or test. Ask SCANDI for corrected figures in the documents for your machine. [1]
