Irrigation

RAIN LING RL-CJ100 Decoder Irrigation Controller

The RAIN LING RL-CJ100 is a decoder irrigation controller for up to 100 stations, with HSBUS communication up to 3 km. RAIN LING offers AC and DC versions, an LCD touch screen, mobile-phone control and decoders for soil moisture, rain, flow, lightning protection and valves. The enclosure is ABS with an IP65 rating. It suits larger sites where many valves hang off one two-wire bus. Before ordering, map your zones and cable routes, fix the version and coils, and ask RAIN LING for the wiring manual and a loaded trial.

Build my procurement brief

Planning zones and cable for 100 stations and 3 km

Station count and bus distance are two different limits. A site can need fewer than 100 zones and still hit the cable limit, or the reverse. Draw a zone schedule and the real cable route before you decide the CJ100 covers the job. A site with only a handful of zones may be better served by the RL-CA08 eight-station controller. HSBUS is RAIN LING's own bus name; ask before mixing it with another brand's decoders.

Planning stepWhat to send or request
Address mapList each station and the decoder assigned to it. Ask whether valve, sensor and protection modules share one address limit and how spare stations are kept.
Cable routeRecord the longest run, total cable, branches, junctions and device positions. Get the approved cable, layout and joint rules for your build, and ask whether 3 km means the whole bus or each branch.
Running loadsState which zones must run together and what each coil draws. Request the simultaneous-operation limit, supply rating and any master-valve or pump-start output.
Reach testAsk for a trial on your planned length and layout with the chosen devices under load, and keep the command, response and voltage readings.

Matching version, decoder and valve coil

RAIN LING offers AC and DC controllers and lists 24 V AC / 9 V DC valve decoders. The page has no controller input rating and no decoder-to-coil table, so get both in writing before anyone wires or powers the system. The coils in question sit on valves such as RAIN LING's EVA/EVD solenoid valves, so name the valve model next to the decoder.

  1. Fix the package

Put controller hardware, firmware, power supply or transformer and decoder part numbers on the quotation. The page mentions an integrated transformer; ask its input, output and capacity and which version includes it.

  2. Name the coil

Record the valve and coil type, voltage, load and whether it is latching or pulse. Check that each 9 V coil works with the decoder you buy, using the coil data sheet.

  3. Get the wiring drawing

Request terminal layouts, cable and joint specifications and installation steps for the controller, decoders, protection and field devices of your build.

  4. Power and protection

Have your electrician follow RAIN LING's supply, earthing, surge and fault instructions. Ask for mains frequency, supply current and the surge rating.

Sensors, flow alarms and fault handling

RAIN LING lists soil-moisture, rain, flow, lightning-protection and solenoid-valve decoders. Decide what each signal should do: stop a zone, block a start, raise an alarm or just display. Then ask RAIN LING for the supported setup and a demonstration. If the site is expected to grow zone by zone, put the RL-CA13 / RL-CA16 modular controllers on the same comparison.

Decoder typeWhat to see demonstrated
Moisture and rainAsk for compatible sensor models, the signal type, scaling and how a reading acts on chosen zones. Set your own moisture thresholds with your agronomist.
Flow monitoringName the meter, signal, scaling and position. Agree whether low or abnormal flow alarms or stops irrigation, how fast, and how it resets.
Lightning and diagnosticsAsk which surge parts are supplied, how bus faults are detected and shown, and the withstand level and test report for the protection decoder.
RecoveryShow a disconnected device, lost communication and power restored. Record valve states and the restart sequence.

Mobile app and local programmes

RAIN LING describes an LCD touch screen, independent zone programmes and mobile-app control. The page leaves out the app name, connection hardware, user roles, data storage and any subscription. Ask whether a data plan is included and what works without internet.

Have the supplier show local scheduling first, then the full mobile workflow on your build. Note what can be viewed or changed remotely, how users log in, and which schedules keep running when the phone or network drops. Check clock retention, a stopped programme and power restoration at handover, and confirm at the valve that water actually reached the zone.

Enclosure, mounting and peripherals

The closed product photo shows the cabinet and cable glands on the underside. A second photo shows the controller wired to several devices and a sample valve and sprinkler. Use the photos to name parts in your enquiry. The 38 × 23.5 × 31.5 cm figure is the inner packing box.

FeatureWhat to get for installation
MountingAsk for enclosure dimensions, weight with components, fixings and the space to open both doors and reach terminals.
EnvironmentRAIN LING lists IP65 and ABS. Request the test document and operating limits for the full assembly with glands, plus UV and temperature limits.
PeripheralsList every decoder, sensor, protection unit, valve and connector to be supplied, by code and quantity, on the quotation.
Access and serviceAgree siting, cable entry, inspection and maintenance using RAIN LING's installation instructions.

Acceptance trial and handover

Turn your field plan into an acceptance schedule that covers the bus, the electrics and the irrigation result together. Water pressure and flow design stays with whoever owns the hydraulics.

  1. Freeze the package

Record version, firmware, station map, decoders, coils, sensors, power and cable layout. Ask for destination conformity documents for the CJ100 itself.

  2. Run real zones

Demonstrate agreed concurrent loads, the longest routes, local and remote control and sensor responses. Log pressure and flow at the zones apart from bus results.

  3. Close out

Keep results, open items, manuals, any configuration backup, spare-part codes and written warranty and support terms.

Buyer questions

Can all 100 stations run at once?

RAIN LING lists 100 stations as capacity. Ask for the simultaneous limit for your coils and power supply and test it. [1]

Is 24 V AC / 9 V DC the controller input?

Those figures go with the valve decoders. Ask RAIN LING for the controller input voltage of the AC or DC version you buy. [1]

Does 3 km apply to every branch?

The page states a maximum distance without cable or layout terms. Ask for an approved layout and try it on site. [1]

Are the sensors and valve in the photo included?

The photo is an example layout. List each peripheral and quantity on the quotation. [3]

Can I design the mounting from the packing size?

No. 38 × 23.5 × 31.5 cm is the inner box. Request the enclosure drawing with door and service clearance. [1] [2]
