HOREY BMS Orbital Motors
HOREY's BMS is a face-distribution orbital motor carried on tapered-roller bearings, with a roller-insert 6/7-tooth rotor/stator. HOREY offers it for driving a wheel, sprocket or working mechanism directly off the shaft, so bearing load matters as much as torque when you choose a size. The webpage covers BMS, BMSE and BMSZ in nine sizes from 80 to 475, rated up to 765 N·m. Below are the rated figures, the catalogue's bearing-load graph, which shafts go with which flanges, curve points and seal conditions, and where the webpage and catalogue differ.

Build my procurement briefDirect drive and the bearing-load graph
HOREY says the tapered-roller bearings carry axial and radial loads, so a working mechanism can be driven directly off the shaft. Torque and bearing load are two separate checks. A wheel or sprocket on the shaft pushes on the bearings whatever torque the motor is making.
Printed page 68 gives an allowable-load graph against distance from a defined datum, with separate curves for different axial loads. The caption bases bearing life on B10 at 200 rpm and 3000 hours. Curve A is the limit; the heavier curves are the recommended working range. The 3000 hours is the basis of that graph; it does not describe a field life or warranty.
To size a BMS for a wheel or travel drive, send the axial and radial load cases, the overhang from the datum, the speed and work cycle and how the motor is supported. The store lists OMS-type travel motors for sugarcane harvesters; harvester buyers should include the machine's own load data. If the wheel drive must also hold the machine when parked, ask about HOREY's ZBMR brake motors alongside the BMS.
Rated figures by size (webpage)
Rated torque does not rise all the way with displacement. BMS400 is rated at 765 N·m at 14 MPa; BMS475 at 650 N·m at 10 MPa, because its rated pressure is lower. The rows below are taken as published, each with its own pressure. For a working point outside this table, HOREY's BMR and BMM orbital motors are separate families with their own tables.
| Size / actual displacement | Rated speed, torque, pressure drop, flow, mass |
|---|---|
| 80 / 80.6 cm³/rev | 675 rpm; 175 N·m; 16 MPa; 54 L/min; 9.8 kg. |
| 160 / 154 cm³/rev | 337 rpm; 445 N·m; 16 MPa; 52 L/min; 10.7 kg. |
| 200 / 194 cm³/rev | 270 rpm; 505 N·m; 16 MPa; 52 L/min; 11.1 kg. |
| 250 / 243 cm³/rev | 216 rpm; 620 N·m; 16 MPa; 52 L/min; 11.6 kg. |
| 315 / 311 cm³/rev | 171 rpm; 700 N·m; 16 MPa; 53 L/min; 12.3 kg. |
| 400 / 394 cm³/rev | 135 rpm; 765 N·m; 14 MPa; 53 L/min; 13.2 kg. |
| 475 / 475 cm³/rev | 110 rpm; 650 N·m; 10 MPa; 52 L/min; 14.3 kg. |

Catalogue sizes and ratings differ from the webpage
Size range: the catalogue's BMS table stops at 375, with 370 cm³/rev actual displacement. The webpage adds 400 and 475 at 394 and 475 cm³/rev. The store also uses an OMS500 title, which has no matching BMS500 column in either table.
Ratings: BMS160 is 154 cm³/rev, 445 N·m rated at 16 MPa on the webpage, and 157.2 cm³/rev, 316 N·m rated at 15 MPa in the catalogue. BMS200 is 194 cm³/rev and 505 N·m rated on the webpage, 200 cm³/rev and 340 N·m in the catalogue. No change notice explains the difference.
Inlet pressure: the webpage gives 18/21 MPa rated/maximum; the catalogue gives 21/25/30 MPa rated/continuous/intermittent.

Published specifications
Read each value with its stated conditions, and ask the manufacturer for any limit not listed here.
| Specification | Published value | Meaning / limit |
|---|---|---|
| Webpage family | BMS / BMSE / BMSZ; codes 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, 250, 315, 400, 475 [1] [2] | Nine displacement codes on one family page. The suffixes are mounting and shaft variants of the same motor. |
| Actual displacement (webpage) | 80.6 / 100.8 / 125 / 154 / 194 / 243 / 311 / 394 / 475 cm³/rev [1] [2] | The older catalogue gives 157.2 / 200 / 252 / 314.5 and 370 cm³/rev for some of the same positions. |
| Bearings and distribution | Face distribution; tapered-roller bearing construction [1] [2] | HOREY describes the bearings as carrying axial and radial loads. Send your load and overhang for a size check. |
| Pressure figures (webpage) | Inlet 18 rated / 21 maximum MPa; outlet with drain 11 / 14 MPa [1] | Separate from the working pressure drop in the size table. Seal pressure has its own graph in the catalogue. |
| Mass (webpage) | 9.8–14.3 kg by size [1] | Motor only; add the wheel, hub or coupling for the installed mass. |
Which shafts go with which flanges
Printed pages 65–67 show the BMSJ and BMS(E,Z) connections, and pages 69–70 give the order tables. Not every shaft is offered with every flange, so choose a complete listed code. For the parts that mount on that shaft, browse our parts and attachments category.
| Catalogue drawing or order rule | What it means for your order |
|---|---|
| BMSJ customer-side spline | A 12-tooth 12/24DP, 30° spline on the customer side with a 25.4 mm pitch circle, plus geometry and material notes. Your mating part has to be made to this spec. |
| BMS(E,Z) keyed and spline shafts | Keyed shafts of 25 / 32 / 25.4 / 31.75 mm, several splines, pin and key variants and tapers. Dimensions are taken from the illustrated flange face; check pilot, fixing and engagement. |
| SP flange | Available only with T1, D, B, F and G shafts. |
| WE flange | The BMSE table allows only T4, B, F and G shafts. |
| Codes by series | BMS/BMSS, BMSZ and BMSE/BMSJ each have their own flange, shaft and port codes. Order a complete code from one series rather than mixing suffixes. |

Curve points, seal pressure and rotation
Printed page 55 pairs torque and speed at each flow and pressure. White cells are continuous duty and shaded cells are intermittent, up to six seconds per minute.
| Catalogue item | How to use it |
|---|---|
| BMS125 at 30 L/min and 14 MPa | 250 N·m at 208 rpm, in the continuous region. |
| BMS125 at 90 L/min and 17.5 MPa | 309 N·m at 644 rpm, shaded intermittent. For continuous work at that torque, choose a lower-speed point. |
| Seal pressure | Printed page 68 plots seal pressure against speed. With an external drain, drain-line pressure is what the seal sees. Specify the drain arrangement for your circuit. |
| Rotation | Standard direction is viewed from the shaft end with pressure on the named port; a reverse code is available. State the direction with the port layout. |
| What HOREY publishes | HOREY describes the BMS as efficient, long-lived and high-pressure; it gives no efficiency percentage or endurance figure. Ask for the table, circuit and load check for your build together. |
Buyer questions
Is BMS475 stronger than BMS400?
Not at rated point. The webpage rates BMS475 at 650 N·m and 10 MPa, BMS400 at 765 N·m and 14 MPa. Compare at your working point and configuration. [1]
Does the bearing graph mean 3000 hours of life on my machine?
The graph is drawn on a B10 basis at 200 rpm and 3000 hours for the plotted loads and distances. Field life depends on your actual loads and cycle. [2]
Can I combine any shaft with the SP or WE flange?
No. SP takes only T1, D, B, F and G shafts; WE takes only T4, B, F and G. Order a listed code and check it against your host drawing. [2]
