A practical checklist for your first conversation with an agricultural machinery manufacturer.
01 / APPLICATION
Start with the job, not just the machine.
Describe the crop, location and task. Field preparation, planting and harvesting require different information. Explain the conditions in which the machine will operate, including the terrain and soil where relevant.
02 / COMPATIBILITY
Make your existing equipment part of the brief.
For an attachment or implement, identify the tractor or base machine it needs to work with. Provide the available power, hitch arrangement and power take-off details from your equipment documentation. Ask the manufacturer to confirm compatibility in writing.
03 / CONFIGURATION
Confirm the exact configuration.
A published series range does not mean that every combination is available. Specify the working width, power requirement and features that matter to you. Request the corresponding model documentation before making a decision.
04 / DELIVERY & SUPPORT
Include the practical details.
State the quantity, destination and preferred timing. Ask about packing, spare parts, manuals, installation and after-sales support. Confirm the applicable local import and operating requirements with a qualified local adviser.
How to specify branch capacity and feed systems, stump grinder depth, trailer load and crane reach, winch pull and rope, PTO or engine drive, and the safety documents to request with each quote.
Drawings, material grades, hardness and heat treatment, casting tolerances, first-article inspection and PPAP-style approval for wear parts, castings, crankshafts, radiators, mufflers and gear cases
How each stage of a bag or block mushroom line sets the duty for the next machine, and how to write a specification for a substrate mixer and a growing-room climate unit.
Read airflow against static pressure, size exhaust fans for a pig house from per-pig rates, compare tested efficiency, and judge whether a frost fan suits your orchard's night-time inversion.
Which machine does which job on green, black and white tea lines, from withering troughs and fixation drums to rollers, fermentation units and dryers, and how to size a line from fresh-leaf intake.
How to work out total head, flow and suction lift, read a pump curve, and pick between clean-water, dirty-water and high-pressure pumps before you ask for quotes.
Match working width, depth, tine layout and engine to the soil and plot size, then specify attachments and documents so quotes from different factories line up.
What to put in a hose and pipe order: working versus burst pressure, vacuum ratings, inner diameter and friction loss, rain-spray throw, and drip emitter details.
How to specify chainsaws, brush cutters, pole tools and earth drills, compare quotes on engine size or battery platform, and collect the safety, noise and emission paperwork EU, UK and US buyers ask for.
